The ice axe and hands of a
member of the Mountain Rescue team make up this life-sized commemorative bronze
by Richard Arnold, a long-time member of Mountain Rescue. This sculpture will
be installed at the historical
Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon, in June 2009,
during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Mountain Rescue.
Perched 6,000 feet up on the massive south shoulder of Mt. Hood, the lodge is a
classic WPA-era structure, built completely by hand from local stone, a
masterpiece of Cascadian architecture with long hallways of fir and cedar.
Richard Arnold's sculpture will become a fitting part of this legendary
place. |
